Can Birth Control Help Acne?
Birth control pills are widely prescribed by doctors to control acne. Many of these birth control pills can “aggravate” acne and cause weight gain at the same time. Birth control pills are divided into two groups, this higher in estrogens and those higher in progestins. As a rule, pills higher in estrogens are safe for your acne. Birth control higher in progestins can aggravate your acne. If you are considering taking birth control, be sure to talk to your doctor about using a BC that is higher in estrogens.
Only you and your doctor can determine what pill is right for you. Birth control is also associated with other side effects like higher risk for blood clots, weight gain, nausea, mood changes, depression and breast tenderness.
